OptiFine downloads & compatibility

Use the official OptiFine site to find a build for your Minecraft Java version. Check compatibility before changing an installation you use for multiplayer.

Download from the original project

OptiFine is a third-party Java Edition mod with graphics and performance options. We link to the developer’s downloads; MinecraftIP does not host installers or maintain OptiFine.

Match the complete Minecraft version shown on the download page. Check whether the build is a preview and read its changelog and any listed Forge compatibility. Do not assume a build for a nearby patch will work.

Before you install

  1. Check your server requirements. Record the edition, exact client version and any required modpack. A server’s version badge may describe a range rather than one tested setup.
  2. Back up your saves and settings. Use a separate launcher installation for experiments so you can return to your working configuration.
  3. Check the modpack’s instructions. Adding a graphics mod can conflict with its existing rendering setup. Follow the pack maintainer’s compatibility guidance.
  4. Use the official download page. Check the destination before downloading. Do not enter your Microsoft password into an installer or a third-party download form.
  5. Test one change at a time. First launch the game, then join your usual server. Keep shaders off initially so you can tell which change affects performance.

Troubleshoot the right problem

The game feels choppy. Where should I start?

Lower render distance and demanding visual options, disable shaders, and compare the same location before and after. Keep other settings unchanged while testing. More allocated memory is not automatically better; follow your modpack’s requirements.

Blocks break late, but the picture looks smooth.

That can point to connection latency or server tick delays rather than low client FPS. Check whether other players see the same behavior and whether it happens on another server. Changing graphics settings may not address it.

The server says my client is outdated.

Check the exact release and edition required by the owner. OptiFine is not a substitute for the right client version. Our version compatibility guide explains what to compare.

Does installing OptiFine guarantee higher FPS?

No. Results depend on your hardware, settings, game version and other mods. Compare your own repeatable test instead of relying on a promised percentage increase.

OptiFine is an independent project. Download availability and compatibility are maintained by its developers; always check the linked project pages for current details.
