Choosing a server for Minecraft 1.17
Keep client and server profiles separate
If a community requests 1.17, confirm whether it expects an ordinary client or a named pack. Create a separate installation rather than changing the profile you use for other worlds.

Can I reuse a newer client profile?
Only if the server explicitly supports it. A newer game version is not automatically backward-compatible with a 1.17 server.
