Modpack Java Edition Minecraft Servers
Check access requirements before choosing a community.Find Java communities marked as using a modpack. Start with the exact pack name and release required by the owner, then compare progression, world resets and how the group plays. A Minecraft version badge alone is not enough to choose a compatible installation.

A closer look at this directory
This directory currently has 988 servers. The 20 shown on this page include 20 declaring Java support and 6 declaring Bedrock support; 6 declare both. Listings supporting both editions appear in both counts.
Tags on these listings: BedWars, Earth, Factions, Lifesteal, OneBlock, Pixelmon, Prison, PvP.
Declared version groups: 26, 1.7, 1.20, 1.8, 1.2, 1.21. What version labels mean.
A modpack name is only the starting point
Two communities can advertise the same pack while running different releases or configurations. Ask for the owner's installation profile or published pack page, including the required release. Keep that profile separate from your personal modded worlds so an update for one server does not change your other saves.
Choose the playstyle as well as the software. A quest-gated technology pack, a Pokémon adventure and a sky-based automation pack have different progression. Check whether friends share quests and resources, and whether the group has already progressed far beyond the opening stages.
Before installing a server's modpack
Get the full installation details
Confirm the pack release, Minecraft version, loader and additional files. Use the pack author's memory and runtime requirements rather than guessing a universal RAM allocation.
Read the server's changes
Ask about disabled items, altered recipes and chunk-loading limits. A familiar pack name does not mean every tutorial or automated farm works unchanged.
Coordinate updates with your group
Wait for the community's update announcement before moving to a newer release. Keep the working profile so you can return to the version the server actually runs.
Check the season and team rules
Find out when the world began, what resets remove and whether quest progress is individual or shared. This matters when joining an established automation project.

Joining a Java modpack server
Is a resource pack the same as a modpack?
No. A resource pack changes presentation such as textures and sounds; it does not install the gameplay mods a Java modpack may require. Follow the full client instructions.
Why do I get a missing-mod or version-mismatch message?
Compare your selected profile and pack release with the server's requirements. Save the exact error text for support. Adding or deleting random mods can introduce further incompatibilities.
Can I use an ordinary unmodded Java client?
Usually not when the pack requires client-side gameplay mods. Some communities use only server-side modifications, so ask whether a standard client is supported.
Should I install the latest pack release?
Use the release specified by the community. A newer release may contain changed mods, recipes or networking behaviour that the server has not adopted.
Can Bedrock friends join the same modpack?
Do not assume a crossplay badge makes a Java modpack work on Bedrock. Ask which mode and connection the badge applies to; Java client mods are not Bedrock add-ons.
Project documentation: CurseForge: installing mods and modpacks. Server-specific settings and access rules still come from the community.
